daedalus?

The word Daedal means 'cunningly wrought' and is derived from Daedalus, a legendary Greek inventor and engineer. His more famous projects are:

  • Built a fake cow, in which the wife of King Minos, Pasiphea, hid to have sex with the Cretan Bull, resulting in the Minotaur
  • Designed the Labyrinth in which to imprison the Minotaur
  • Was imprisoned to prevent him revealing the secret of the Labyrinth and he built wings for himself and his son Icarus to fly away (remember, always follow instructions!)
  • Threaded a murex shell by attaching a hair to an ant, and tempting it to walk through the shell with honey for King Cocalus.
